Kitchen layout and flooring question

Hi all,

I would like to ask for some opinions on what on first sight might seem to be of little importance... all opinions are welcome;

As you can see I have attached two pictures with two different layouts and Im wondering... which of the two is the better one? My main concerns have been natural light, first impression when you enter the flat (entrance to the right in the pics), how you move between the different areas etc. etc.

Is one version better than the other? If yes, please motivate and help me make up my mind.

Now, regarding flooring... Im thinking I either parquet the whole place, kitchen included OR put some of those wonderful cement tiles in the kitchen but how would I then in the nicest possible way make the cement tiles meet the parquet in the hallway?

I like door number 2. I like the table between the two windows; this will certainly allow more light into the room and give the impression of the room being bigger as you walk in. And if the scale is correct - it looks like there is plenty of room. Also if 7 and 8 are pantries with shelves, they may function better (easier access to items) if they were not 24" deep but more like 18". Items can get lost in the back with narrow deep pantries. Maybe one with pull-outs and the other with adj shelves if keeping the deeper cabinets.

Hi and thanks for your comments, some really valid points, especially about more light in the room in pic 2. Regarding nr. 7 and 8, they are built in refrigerator and oven/micro.

#2 looks great! Whatever you choose, make sure all cabinet doors can open fully and freely. And that two people can move about comfortably, and pass each other, without doing the butt bump thing. (Unless you want to :-)

#2 seems the most functional for the space. The axis created by the double doors on the right side lines up nicely with the island and the shadows cast from your windows. If the island were on the other side, like in option #1, the first thing you would see when entering is the I & 2, which is am assuming is a fridge. Invest in a nice island and that will bring life to the space.

Sorry, to say, both plans equally bad. It appears that you are willing to spend some money but really need some guidance on the layout. Do you have a budget or rough dimension.

While I love the graphic cement tiles, in such a tiny flat it might make more sense to just run the parquet throughout. Are you using the IKEA design software? I love the idea of the island between the windows. Very charming. Will there be upper cabs or shelving?

Agree with general consensus about #2 -- also, more comfortable to sit near wall, more comfortable to walk around narrower protrusion. Am I missing where you have a refrigerator?

#2 is the best of the two, however, I feel there could be improvement. Could you provide dimensions of the entire room including the approach to the kitchen? Would love to help!
