Wow. Flashback! I just remodeled the exterior of a 70's contemporary. We went with a gray with a white trim. We also added overhangs all the way around the house. We did large exposed rafter overhang on a tall wall like you have in this picture.

I freely admit to being an amateur, but couldn't resist trying to add some bold color. I suggest removing the lattice on the octagonal window, taking down the shutters, and changing the light fixtures to something more modern. Even if you don't like my color choices, I suggest painting the different sections different colors, or at least different shades, to add interest.

Hi carriefickel, I agree with jen797's comment for removing the shutters and even changing the round window above the entry door. The color of the siding is fine but adding some architectural details would help bring more contemporary flare to your home.
