The "Cape Cod" style evolved in response to the local climate and availability of materials in New England. It also has a relatively rigid symmetry and typically does not embrace the open floor plan. For example, a true cape cod would have smaller rooms that could be shut off and not heated when they were not being used.

You might be better off looking at styles that are more responsive to the weather of SC, the relevant site characteristics (think view) and your lifestyle...
