Accent Colors

We have a natural white brick ranch style home. We are looking to put a portico on the front and currently have black shutters and roof, white garage doors and no curb appeal. We don't want to paint the entire home so what colors can we use as accent colors to make our home more "current". I love the slate on the porch and sidewalk but what can we do to bring our boring brick home to life?

Same here! When it rains the white brick turns a yellowtail brown. Husband thinks it is a sin to paint natural white brick. I disagree.

Actually, your natural white brick could look amazing. But, you have almost no landscaping to set off the house. It needs greenery esp w reddish surfaces. Perhaps you could add borders of high and low shrubs with different textures and shades of green. Or, build up planters or pots. Perhaps even a trellised vine. For a different color look, why not change the shutters and garage to a color that works w natural white and your rust hardscaping ... Maybe a grayish denim blue? Again, main issue is you are lacking greenery.

Oops that comment was for "jennmarcy" not the topic photo!

To "dmoor" You could make a bigger impact on curb appeal by doing more with landscaping. Your hill of grass partly obscures your house and lacks variety. I considered painting my brick, but have seen many houses with chipped painted brick - not maintained. It wasn't chic distressed, just a mess. Instead, I changed window trim and color and all landscaping. Perhaps swaths of shrubs up your front hill? A front entry path. Ornamental trees?

Your house could look lovely just as it is if you had some really nice landscaping.
