I would add crown moulding and wainscoting trim throughout the area. Millwork would add so charm and detail that you find in older homes. I would continue a style that is similar or blends with the existing wood work thought the home. I would keep the wood floors for warmth. A beautiful walnut trim around them would look beautiful. I love white trim instead of dark, but that is a matter of preference.

Wow! 10 feet? Lucky duck!!! Lol. I bought a 1970's house with 8 foot ceilings and I was so limited on what I could choose.... You can do anything. A chandelier would be nice too!

Thinking an orb chandelier would be really pretty!! It's hard for me to say though, because I don't know what you have in mind for your tile floor. This one is pricey, but there are a ton of less expensive ones out there!

MF, we really need more information to make good design assessments. Is the craftsman style carried throughout the home? Did you create the niche with the small window on the landing, or is that original? And are you painting up the stairwell? What prompted redoing the walls? Now that you have unpainted the trim, are you just wanting to lighten up in this space?

I'd keep it very light on the walls, as it appears there isn't a lot of natural light. You have a beautiful space. This reminds me of a home we completely gutted and put back together. Our house was built about 1890. I kept the walls white until we had lived there for a while. Adding your furniture and accessories will make such a difference in how the space looks and feels. The house is craftsman style throughout. (I think that is the style all the trim throughout the house looks identical ) it was built 1910. The niche was existing. I plan on staining the trim (dark but not too dark) and redoing the floor tiles/slate and throwing around the idea of iron rails on the staircase
Want it to feel warm. What colours / styles can help me achieve that warm feel without going too dark

The walls were plaster and in terrible shape being over 100 years old so we tore then down
Not sure if we are going to keep the staircase (refinish it) or install new. Still on the fence

Yes we are painting up the stairwell an stop at the landing on the 2nd floor

Beautiful Marilia!! I love the staircase. Staining your wood trim the same color as the post on the staircase would be beautiful. I just renovated my entrance and also close a light grey because I didn't have much light. I used Athena by Benjamin Moore. I get a ton of compliments. Here is a photo of it

Marilia, if you are stripping the woodwork, why not leave the floors and add a mission style runner down the hall. If you want to keep the integrity of the period of the house, that period used darker colors, mostly earth inspired, such as greens, browns and golds. An arts & crafts stained glass light fixture hanging down would be lovely.
