Gorgeous hardie panels! How are they attached at the retaining wall?

I see the fasteners on the light gray panels, but are the medium gray panels by the steps in some kind of a track? Man, that just looks fantastic.

Treated Lumber. It is not actually retaining, the garage below has a step in ceiling height.

Thank you. The grey panels are Hardi-board and use nail fasteners. The hardi allows you to putty over the nail heads to give a smooth, seamless look.

How "hardi" are the Hardi boards as siding in a Northern climate? Would I have to do anything special to them to make them "arctic" proof? I am currently building a very modern home and am very interested in this product. Beautiful work, by the way!

Thanks Traci. As long as you prime and paint all surfaces, including all of the cut edges, I have had no issues. They now require that you use their flashing or they will not warrant. It is a sturdy product. Good luck!

Hi, what is the core of the retaining wall made from? (ie. what is the hardie board mounted to?)
