If you decide to paint, which I recommend over a wash, then you need to do it all: walls, windows, front doors, fireplace, trims, casings, all of it.

Lots of potential! I would paint it all out. If your budget allows, you could remove the paneling, install drywall and then reuse the wall paneling on your sloped ceilings.

I like the idea of salvaging the panelling for the ceiling. I would definitely paint the fireplace, but consider white washing paneling and keeping that texture if you do keep it. I would also eliminate the Juliette balcony, unless u really use it. Not sure how to modernize it, as it looks hokey.

Ditch the chandelier. It's redundant and clutters the space given the sconce..which is fab!
