Front door design dilemma

I recently had my front door and window surround replaced. It started out just wanting to get rid of a difficult to open security door and replace with a standard full view storm door. Quickly discovered that you couldn’t replace the doors without replacing the glass. Most contractors just wanted to replace the glass with another door, which would look one of the key design elements of the house. I finally found a contractor who was willing to work with me to replace and try to stay true to the original build.

I have been thinking about this for years and haven’t thought of a door design I like. Now that I see the replacement, I think I like the plain slab. The contractor recommends adding a mail slot and putting a could large rectangles above and below the slot, but I’m not loving the idea. There are already so many rectangles in the design.

The dilemma: should I add a design to the door using wood trim like the original door used (not the specific squares) or leave it a slab?
