Help with bathroom lighting

We have a home built in the late '70's and the top story bathroom is in a dormer (lots of angles) and the wiring for the overhead lights over vanity is just that - overhead - instead of coming out of the wall and with a very narrow area to install any type of overhead lighting. We'd like to try and avoid re-routing the electrical to the wall and am having difficulties trying to replace - AND UPDATE!!! the lighting. Help! Thanks

What is the distance center to center on the mirrors?

What style are you looking for? Are you planning on updating more things in there?

I can understand your reluctance to make a mess and add expense by rerouting the electrical. However vanity lighting is best with sconces on both sides of the mirrors.

I can see a nice track light fixture going above the vanity...with 4 bulbs/lights.

There are a lot of options but spacing is important for instance this one is 33.5" wide. (It is adjustable for orientation)

Thank you for all the helpful hints; it's great to know I'm thinking along all of these lines and suggestions. Yes, we are planning to upgrade the vanity, switch out the mirrors, refinish the cabinets, add a tile "back splash", etc. - just maybe all right now. On the other side of this pic is the tub/shower which is getting completely redone, along with a new window, removal of popcorn ceiling and all new tile. I wanted to try and upgrade the lighting sooner than later. Thanks for all the great advice. To Maureen: do you have the details of the lights of the pictures you provided?

I would reroute the wires, it's very simple and worth it. There might be enough wire to move it. Also in looking at the wall, it looks as thought something was there previously. The great thing about you ceilings and walls are that they are flat smooth surfaces.

Another suggestion, I would set those mirrors in the walls between the joints, this way the mirror is flush to the wall giving you a better look and use of space. If the mirrors are hinged to the cabinet, remove them. Use the sink cabinet drawer to place items in or build a space between your joist. This is just a visionary comment/suggestion.

I like the lighting samples Maureen posted above. I don't know if you know anyone that is handy to do electrical work or if you would have to hire someone to make additional wiring changes so you could have 3 pendants? I see there is one base where the wires split into the 2 globe lights...would have to figure that part out.

Hi, If you click on the link below the two pictures, it will take you to the company that designed the washrooms. You'll see there were lots of questions in both posts about where the lighting could be purchased, but there was no reply given. Perhaps if you contact these companies directly, they could advise you. You could go onto Houzz Shop and search for bathroom ceiling fixtures and you may find some you like. Good luck.
