I think bar stools with backs are more comfortable to sit in, so that is what I would choose.

I have a similar bar and prefer backless. I don't like how the backs cut the view. I think either works though.

I would get a back on stools just more comfortable. Go a color to add interest or a woven.

The only way I think it would look good having some with backs/ some without backs is if you had three with backs where the existing 3 backless are now.

Then, add 2 more on the sides with no backs.

So, this would require you to buy 3 with backs, move 2 backless to the sides and you'd have an extra one.

If you are buying them locally, then there certainly is no harm in buying 3 with backs and trying it out. You can return them.

What I think would look really odd is placing the 2 extra with backs on the side.
