need some table advice.

I need a dining table for this area in my kitchen. Im a 27 year old single guy so I decided against a formal dining table and instead put a pool table in the formal dining area. Im looking for something to fill the area but not be to cramped I found a really good deal on craigslist on the world market braxton table with 4 chairs similar to the one pictured. but at 78x40im not sure if thats going to be to big, the area measure 14ftW from sliding door to bar by 12.5L from archway to island. the tape measure and dog food bowls mark 78x40 in the general area the table would go. what are your thoughts?

I wouldn't put the table in front of the door. You should try and move it to the side so that you don't have to walk around the table to go outside. It breaks up the space and flow through the room. Think about walkways through spaces and use furniture to define the edges of the spaces, like walls, when you have big open spaces.

here is the table the one I found has two white and two patterned chairs similar shape. I think I would buy or build a bench for one side though.

Hi I like the dog! Anyway I was going to suggest a round table 60inches maybe with a leaf or two for later if big party. You have sliding glass door and other entry that might be blocked by rectangular table. altho I like the table you present but just wonder about all the rectangular and boxy look already with tile. Do you think round might soften and allow you not to jab your hip on an edge? You can buy wooden tables and then paint them yourself. Just an idea.

Perhaps oval. Take your dogs bed or a blanket put on floor in round shape see what you like. Try oval, try rectangle. Measure what you want. Can also use a long rope. Shape it to measure the size and look you want. Remember to account for chairs and benches.

I would suggest using a round table, since your room is oblong. Maybe mixing wood finishes to give it some interest and more fun.
