Are the counters and appliances staying as is?

The easier update would be the cabinets. I would start with them and live with the trim for a while and see how you feel down the road. Are you planning on keeping the countertops? If not, pick out your new counters first and then pick your cabinet color from there.

I updated my kitchen bs few years ago the same way you're doing. In looking at your picture he may want to consider having the two cabinets on each side of the sink area with a frosted glass insert you could take the doors off and have a cabinet maker put glass in for you.The lower cabinets could be painted a green or gray tone consider a lighter gray white and gray tone based on your appliances and countertops. The Crown molding, is a definite..it will add a lot. If you don't like the idea of gray or green tones look for a cream or almond color that is light. I did an almond color about four years ago and the color has darkened some. I still love my cabinets however they are beautiful. The trim around your window would look good if all of your trim in the area matches. I hired a professional painter to paint my cabinets. It was a great investment.
