The item above the cooktop is an antique Japanese textile, originally used as a ceremonial drape over the back of a horse. The homeowners designed a glass front case, and located a company in Milwaukee (Poblacki Sign Company) to fabricate it their specs. When it was delivered, it fit perfectly, and functions as planned. It is airtight to prevent condensation inside the case from steam that occurs while cooking. The textile was mounted and installed into the case by New Creation Picture Framing in Pasadena CA. There are is a strip of cool white LED lights along the top of the case, and also across the bottom. Next to these are parallel strips of blue LED lights. They are all hidden by the frame of the case. These lights, like all others in the kitchen, are operated by dimmer switches.
