New cupboard, new floor, new counter top

I still hate my kitchen...David picked out everything but the counter top...but this back splash is calling my name...problem is we have an electrical box next to stove so I can't tile....will be adding under cabinet lights once we have something to show off under there hehe! Thinking stencil would be best as wallpaper would stick out over door and screws.....comments and suggestions welcome....and go.....

kelhen I think a stencil would work best to camouflage the electrical box. GOOGLE - Stenciled Back Splash and look at Images. Also, Houzz has an article on stencils. There are some real nice ideas on Images. I would paint the back splash walls white and stencil the rest in either a darker version of your existing walls or pick up a color from your countertop.
Here are a couple ideas for inspiration: One is a simple pattern on a darker blue wall as I suggested, the other mimics subway tile. (I think a simple pattern, like the first one would hide the box best).

How much would it cost to move the electrical box? If it's doable, I'd do it so you can put up a nice backsplash to tie the kitchen together.

Could you put the backsplash around the electrical box frame and add tiles to the box's door allowing the frame to stand as is?

Stencilling looks like a great solution to a real dilemma! I would be cautious of faux subway or other tile. Nothing wrong with people knowing it's stencil art, in fact, I think everyone will think you're very clever. Post a picture in Before and After when you're done.

If you're not adept at stenciling, consider hiring a pro for the job.

What an odd place for electric box! Yes, move it. Don't try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Perhaps it can be moved to inside a cabinet nearby. Very strange! Then you can have a nice backsplash. I recommend glass subway tile.

I've changed the wall color to be less grey blue and more grey putty color and yellow for the back splash with a French stencil. Love that it hides the electric box...
