tho i love the light, it seems much to low, and semi out of plce. I would swag it so it hangs over the new bar serving area to the left...looks like you have to walk around it now.... ahh the space just increased!!! i would also loose the curtains in favor of wooden blinds or sea grass one. or a frosted film on the windows, to block the view of the parking lot but still let in light. i would opt no rug as every time someone pulled out a bar stool they would get caught up on it. or be un even. then hang something awesome on the bare wall .... add cushions to the bench seats. maybe you could do a runner in front of the new bench area.

Might be a bit out of left field as a suggestion, but given the muted and neutral colors in the room, perhaps a red pattern Persian rug would look good?

Whatever you use needs to play into the broader white-on-black theme. I'd have to say the mat currently there is about 1/3 the size that would ideally fit into this room. Are there chairs for the table opposite the bar?

I'd add some color to your walls. Because the cabinets and floor are so dark you focus on those areas. Art on the wall above the open counter. Screen the doors with simple gathered semi-transparent linen panels and lower the rod.

maybe just do an accent wall? also, you need either a mirror or a piece of art on top of the furniture to the left. Just put a rug under your dining table. The drapes are not the right size for the slider. Can you shorten them? Better yet. just put a cornice over the slider and the small window to the left. Make it the same color that you do the accent wall in? How about a rusty red.

Under the dining table is the spot for a rug. 4' wider and longer than the table top.

It just needs to be large enough, so the chairs are still on it, when someone is sitting at the table. hope that makes sense?

Your curtains on the window in the living area are too skimpy. If you intend to close them, you need at least twice as many panels, or panels that are 2 - 3 times as wide as these.

Yes, the sheepskin rug doesn’t seem to have enough oomph for the space. It looks like you may have a rug perhaps under the dining table - and the bar chairs will move easily around the space as will your guests without a rug runner. The flooring staying clear and modern keeping the space feeling more spacious without a runner dividing it.

Perhaps you and your guests will enjoy visually meditative artwork on canvas.
You mentioned “mid-century modern/warm industrial/minimalistic tendencies” so we think you’ll enjoy these styles.
