Fireplace makeover - HELP!

Our house came with this lovely retro fireplace (from the 60's?) that we would LOVE to get rid of. I've googled my heart out and can't seem to find makeovers with this kind of concrete brick. We are on a tiny budget, but my husband is handy and I am a great craigslist searcher. Do you have any ideas for re-doing this fireplace? And/or any ideas for how to stage the area? We are at a loss.

We are hosting Thanksgiving next week (gulp) and would love to get rid of this peachy eyesore by then. MANY, MANY THANKS!!

Yes paint. Later when you have time you could reface it with tile or granite and add a mantle

How about one of those spray paints that have a stone finish. They come is different shades and would be a great fix.

Just paint it out white mantel and all but I'd leave the hearth. That's the only quick fix in two days.

Can't quite tell what color your walls are, but perhaps you can find a paint in the gray family that would make a nice contrast with the background. Better do it quick and open the windows, though, or turkey is going to taste of paint fumes! :))

I hate tv over fp. Please move to the side wall, hard on neck & ruins decore.

Yes paint, not spray paint, too many fumes. Dark charcoal would look nice and modern.

HI -- Paint is the best quick and easy fix until you can re- face it or get rid of it , either way . Black for the whole thing ,mantel included .

I think the thin sides of the surround throw it off. Can they either be removed or beefed up? Charcoal sounds beautiful. Maybe a white mantel. I would have the wires placed in the wall by a professional if possible.

Mortar or lime wash it. You can google "lime washing brick" or mortar washing brick for steps and materials needed cost about $20 we actually just mortar washed an entire home a few months ago. Add side trim from floor to ceiling in a white color then above fireplace between "column trim" add reclaimed stained pallets as a accent see attached pictures for ideas. Good luck post updates when your project is finished
