Is this sanitary?

I love the organic beauty of this room. However, while the logs look awesome on either side of the fireplace, I am wondering how it is possible to keep dust and critters(bugs and rodents) out of the gaps.

Interesting decor, but I would prefer bookcases.

I actually like this room a lot, but I can't imagine the logs being a good idea long term.

I think I would too, coopster. It would be more functional. They could add rustic elements among the books, such as giant pine cones, rocks, and fossils.
