Good afternoon. I apologize for the delayed response - I had to chase down some answers for you! The counter top material is white carrera marble. According to the homeowner, who has two young children: coffee, grape juice, and red wine get spilled onto the island with some regularity, yet the surface has incurred no permanent stains over the last two years of daily use. As far as scratch resistance, the homeowners have not noticed any unacceptable wear and tear on this piece as yet, however they admit that they do like a bit of a patina, and that a perfectionist might not love it as much as they do.
