I like briclns idea of painting the base cabinets black to blend with the dishwasher. If you can't remove the shelf, hang a fabric valance, mounted at the ceiling, in front of it. That way you can keep a hidden bottle storage. Pick a light dove gray for the upper cabinets and go 1 shade darker for the walls. Add square shaped brushed nickle cabinet knobs with a very simple pull handle on the others. Play off of the square shape of the tiles. A tile back splash can be expensive, so a good paint color is fine. Add a nice rug and stainless accessories.
