New Condo...need help with making it modern..Please help!!

Just bought this condo and none of this furniture is mine. I like wallpaper or paint. The dining table will be white lacquer rectangle and the top cabinets in kitchen are going to be white lacquer. Was thinking of putting dining table along feature wall...

You have a beautiful home! I like both pieces you selected (sofa and table).

Any suggestions for the walls and the middle of no where pillar?

Always plan your room out as much as you can in advance like you are. Find your rug to work with your upholstery and wallpaper also. THEN start choosing the actual paint. Paint color is infinite and you can tweak it to match the things you've assembled. You'll save yourself a lot of craziness if you go in that order.

Great sofa and table! Your view and windows are a very strong statement in this home so be sure to consider that when making choices, you have a lot of green reflected light coming in. Just let the column get painted the wall color and front it with a chair as shown so it's grounded and less obvious. It's hard to tell where to put the table from these pictures. This may call for two sofas, face to face or l shaped, to keep the room from getting cluttered. Good luck , it's a great space.

Great condo! This sounds counter intuitive but I wonder if painting the column black, charcoal gray or another deep color would help it blend into the scenery? There would need to be dark furniture or accessories to tie it in. Since it stands alone, painting it the wall color might or might not work. Can't wait to see what you do!

Will the dining table be a multipurpose space? Will you pay bills there and read e-mail, etc? If so, then the table against the wall makes a lot of sense. Consider upholstered bench for along the wall. The couch you have selected has merit but given the orientation of the sliding glass door, you might want to consider a love seat and two club chairs.

Crispy pies, it would be helpful to see photos showing your style and more of the condo, including the kitchen.

I hate clutter so the dining place will be set with placemats and dining wear at all times (I like the staged look and ready for dinner) The table will go where the couch currently is only not against wall (dining chairs will back wall) was thinking ghost chairs with chrome legs??? Below is wallpaper ideas...is pattern too busy?

I like velvet, bling fur but not too dark of colors except in this sexy den
  • 11 years ago
I like the wallpapers shown above but not quite as busy as the brown and white one or grasscloth

It looks like you know what you like so go for it. So far, all your choices are nice

printesa whats your thoughts on the wallpaper? Or should I stick with paint....thats my biggest dilema...walls and pilar
  • 11 years ago
While I like wallpaper, I probably wouldn't do it here. Maybe something that has texture if you want wallpaper (like the one in the living room photo that you posted above).

For the column area, you can get a large plant

I like all the wallpaper choices. It just a matter of how subtle you want to do.

Im leaning towards the grasscloth...the mica stone is extremely expensive and I may tire of the print one
  • 11 years ago
Grass cloth will look nice. It has texture and it's subtle

Be cautious with wall paper. Once you tire of it, it is difficult to change out as you will most likely damage the sheet rock in the removal process.

dining table where couch is and a couch by fireplace is a great idea - should be very cozy. also, maybe a bench against the wall rather than chairs. then you can put the table almost against the wall when you don't need as much seating at the dining table. re the pillar - would be cool to make it an accent - mirror, iridescent tile, faux paint branches on it that could even extend onto the ceiling a little, or faux paint marble?? and re wallpaper vs paint - what if you did a modello? like a stencil of paint rather than wallpaper. you get the pattern, but without the commitment of wallpaper. white fur rug??? :) beautiful space!!

I like the idea of marble paint style on pillar or a concrete sort of pattern on pillar same color as wall. I fell in love with grasscloth but it warms the look of a room but I have noticed the one I saw looked tattered/freyed which didn't appeal to me.

Well I decided on a couch...this color, fabric and style only no nailheads and will have buttons on back with bolster at each arm

    LOVE it!!

I like your condo and your couch choice. I can invision the dinning table against the wall. Grass cloth also is a good choice because you can add art work without the wall being too busy with printed wall paper. Now you might think this suggestion is a little crazy but if you are a reader or have an interesting collection why don't you make the column into a floor to ceiling book case? Construct a box of cubbys around the column to put books and decorative items. Pottery, small art work, photos, etc. Put a chair and throw and good reading lamp and you have a cozy reading area.

Hi Crystal. How is your condo coming along? Grace
  • 11 years ago

I think this picture is better...double the price of the other but more pop...does everyone agree? If it is liked I will hunt for accent pillows in Teal or yellow/gold. I am looking for a light still for over dining table as well

    Sorry Grace I star

ted a new thread for accessories because I couldn't find this on my houzz until today which is odd

It looks nice. I like the art as well. It might be the photo, but the large candler holder seems a bit chunky for the table

It is too big for the table...my coffee table arrives mid march and they will get moved to there.

I see. Your project is coming along nicely

Hi Crystal, which coffee table did you decide on? Maybe you've posted it already but I'm getting a little confused with the 3 dilemma threads you've got going lol.... :-)

This oval shaped coffee table. Must nicer than the picture. The others were double the price and I would sooner put the difference to different occasional chairs.
