Yeah for houzzers like lucidos....
I like the first photo with its warm tones.... they sell laminate with expensive rubber-type edging which is supposed to be truly waterproof...? though the simple look of cork photo is nice, how about the slate/stone laminate that has grey-greens which I think look good with oak.

Oh wow! Thank you Lucidos! What program did you use to do that? I really like the first one - the click together laminate. My husband likes the large grey tile. It's so helpful to see it laid out like that. Do you think we should paint the cabinets white?

Hi Decorate: I use a program called Gimp. It's free and is very similar to Photoshop it has a large learning curve.

The trend at the moment is for white/off white in the kitchen. Painting cabinets is a huge undertaking or a large cost if you get it done professionally. To do it correctly means removing all the doors drawers hardware. Sanding..priming..sanding 2 coats of paint sanded in between a top coat curing time (normally at least several days between each coat and then several days before you can rehang them). In a few years and with the scarcity of real wood driving the cost up you will wish you had not.

If anything I would stain the cabinets a bit darker, more the color of the door in view. The thing that's going to get you here, down the line, is that the cabinets are an older style. Personally I would opt for staining and worry about it in a few years.

I like the first floor...we have a similar kitchen and think I've decided not to paint the cabinets...we're going to add large crown and back splash and change the paint color
