Soft white lights give the illusion of fresh fallen snow. Merry Christmas!

Both can be great options, but it ultimately depends on the look & feel you are trying to capture. The classic white lights are timeless and you can't go wrong, on the other hand the colorful lights add an extra pop of color and holiday cheer to the exterior of your home!

One nice idea I've seen for outside...larger colored lights with mini white twinkle lights wound in.

These lanterns with the tiny "fairy" lights are nice for outside...

I have always had white lights. I like the elegant look. When my children were young, I had a second small tree in my front hall that I called the children's tree. It was 3 feet high, had one strand of colored lights and unbreakable ornaments. The kids could re-arrange to their hearts content and left the big tree alone.

My prelit tree can change from white to colors using a controller. Depends
What mood I want to create. It can switch between colors also.

I prefer white. It gives a classy look.

I did white for a few years and got tired of it. Now I have colored lights both inside and out. The tree lights are the same size as the big old 1960's kind of tree lights, but they're LED's.

Thinking it might be fun to do something off-the-wall one year, like purple and green mixed or something. Just to shake things up. But I don't think the other people in this house would stand for it.

I've always liked the simplicity of white lights.

I hate coloured or flashing lights. That is possibly the only thing I won't do for my kids...

We love the old multicolor lights. Do not like the new more pastel colors.

I'm not fond of flashing/blinking/chasing lights, but the white twinkle lights are so subtle and kind of magical.

I like white but with a second color......this year blinking white with purple lights....looks great and get lots of comments from neighbors! Love it

This year I have clear lights and for me it depends on what theme I am going for. This year I did a red bird theme and natural and glass ornaments. A lot of the trees in my neighborhood were cut down and during Christmas the cardinals flock to the trees to eat the Berry's. With the trees gone don't know what to expect this year so I decorated my Christmas trees, wreath, and dinning room table center piece with the birds. I love it!!

Colored, old fashion, traditional... reminds me of my childhood when trees usually had multicolor lights!

If there were any other options but colored when I was growing up, I didn't know about it! And so, for no better reason, I need twinkly bright colored lights on my tree...to go along with the sparkle-covered pine cones and painted macaroni decorations from my kids' early years!

I like both & sometimes on the same tree.

We just got a prewired artificial tree that has LED lights that switch from colored to white. So our tree alternates between the two in a soothing cadence. We could not be more pleased.

Multicolored if you are blind or run a pawn shop or video arcade. White lights for everyone else.

I love white. But i have small children so they choose multicolor

white lights are so suburban looking to me. everyone's decorations always end up looking the same as everyone else's. when i was young….like in my 30s… i was so afraid to diverge from status-quo. my decorating was monochromatic, and my christmas trees were always only white lights. my impression of myself was that i was sophisticated. looking back, i love my young self, but am so much happier with my 60year old person. who can happily/easily take chances and dare to be different. sort of like a revisit to my teenage self. i am creative and expressive…..and am not afraid of color.

Now, those GIANT inflatable santas, snowmen, etc. people have outside are another story!

Always WHITE! Unless those giant real lightbulbs from the 60's and 70's are used. Then and only then-colored.

Always multi-colored on the tree, maybe 450 or so. White candelabra in every upstairs window, all 4 sides of the house...strings of small coloured lights draped in the downstairs windows. Old Georgian home, large windows.

I grew up in the 70's with everyone sporting colored lights and that nightmare tinsel, needless to say I've only had all white. Traditional soft white not that new LED blue white, I don't like that either. I like a classy all white tree as it's a complete opposite of my childhood. And I live where we get a lot of snow and the white on white looks great.

Growing up in the 60's we had multi-color lights, my own trees always had white lights on it. I think the lights depend on the ornaments. I do a Disney tree and it has color lights, they just go. This year I thought I would purchase a multi-color tree to go with the ornaments that we collected over the years. It looked awful and the tree was returned. The ornaments I have must have white lights.

Prefer the white classical look. I add the color with the rest of the decor for the Christmas Tree.

White lights on Christmas trees, both colored and white outside. Don't like most of the colored LEDs - incandescents have softer colors which I like.
