I would say that it is too tall - it overwhelms the table,

Try a fatter lamp that is no more than 1/2 as tall as the table.

It looks a little tall all by its lonesome. However, If you're going to have a mirror to the right, which I hope you will, and perhaps a substantial attractive bowl, sculpture, or other piece on the console, then it might work. Hard to see unless you fill out the ensemble.

I don't want to add anything to the table until I get the right lamp first. love the lamp but you've confirmed my fear of it being too tall. I'll take it back and get something else. Thank you!

Try adding a large but not too heavy looking picture. See if that helps to balance the lamp.

The height of your lamp is within this range and, from what I see, it looks like the shade isn't wider than the table top, so I think it's a great fit!

If you really like the lamp, I suggest keeping it. I agree, by its lonesome it looks odd. But I'm pretty once you fill the space it will compliment everything. Good luck!

Grab a picture from another room and bring it in and just set it on the table to see if that helps bring it together.

HI -- I like the lamp and the table and the wallpaper and mostly the puppy . The lamp could work but depends on what else your doing there . I like the drama of a tall lamp because it is not the norm . Most everyone is going to tell you that it's too tall . That's because it is sitting there all by itself . Maybe set the lamp further away from the door ,- so to the right . Add a big tall mirror or painting above the table to almost resting on the table but tall -- silver frame if it's a mirror and a thin black box frame if it's a painting . An orchid or plant or a rose bowl with the lamp and something big and squatty on the other side . Find some placement ideas here on Houzz for help. So far so good and go for the drama !!

Yes, drama is what I'm looking for. This is a small house, so I want every space to make a statement. I don't have any art really (redoing everything) but I found something in storage and turned it over so the colors won't detract from the overall look. I also moved the lamp to the other side. Thoughts now? (And the pooch said thanks for the compliment) :)

I also bought an area rug which is too small. Need to find a bigger one. This one in person is a very soft cream and grey; love it. I think I need one about 5X7. Any suggestions for art and rug are greatly appreciated. (The rug looks much darker in the picture than in real life).

I would personally keep the lamp, it goes and it will fit once everything is placed. I like the rug also, but you do need a bigger one like you said.

try turning the rug the other way.

HI -- OK , now it's cooking ! Now , how about a big lidded jar or vase in Asian Blue and White Ceramics on the top left side and then add some of the same at the bottom of the table in different shapes and still big sizes. Now add some bits of rich or Ox blood red , like a low little lacquered box in the middle or beside the big item on the left . Then add another small red item with the lamp . This will work with the rug , too ! What do you think ?

I love your entrance so far!!! I would love to see you add a mirror behind your lamp for twice the light and twice the sparkle! A mirror is also very functional in an entry! The rug I added to this vision board if from West Elm. I have used it in a waiting room of a professional office and it's stunning!!! Have fun with your decorating! Thanks all! You've convinced me to keep the lamp now :) I'm a little hesitant to do a mirror only because there's a closet door on the opposite wall, so that's what will reflect. Or do you think a mirror will be okay because the lamp will take up some of the reflection space? I like the idea of the mirror reflecting additional light......

What color frame should the mirror have, dark or more of a silver?

I think people are sometimes overly concerned with what's being reflected. I personally wouldn't worry at all about it reflecting closet doors. Because of the patterned wall paper and rug (which work beautifully together) I would keep the mirror simple and choose a frame that blends with your wall paper. (Like the one I put in the vision board) Your other elements are bold and you don't want too much going on! That being said, I would like to take things a step further and recommend you paint the inside of your entry door! Black, or another accent colour of your choice would look amazing!!! :)

If you could find a framed print with colors that were complimentary to the wallpaper then that would add more drama than a mirror--especially a plain mirror.

A shorter version would be best suited for this space and table. It looks too delicate for the space. Let a mirror, or artwork bring height. I am a fan of layering art and having a shorter, "heavier" lamp

Lamp, table - look wonderful together (prefer rug shown by What's inside - more dramatic, less casual than your rug). A mirror with a mirrored frame would look fabulous there and wouldn't compete with wall paper or the drama your lamp and table bring to the space.

I'd like to see more drama. Something unexpected for the mirror... oversized, a bright color (red, yellow, green, pink), an unusual shape, or multiple mirrors. I also like the idea of painting the interior of the door black. When you go bold, go BOLD.

I have one accent wall in the living room that's a very dark grey. I could paint the front door this same color. What color rug in the foyer then?

Rectangular and taller than lamp is what I would do for mirror. I'd leave the door as is and use rug similar to one shown by Whats inside. Keep it simple and classy and don't over do it with color and prints.

The lamp is fine, I think it's the dark shade that's throwing things off.

The lamp is too tall and skinny. The fine console table needs something a bit more substantial and definitely shorter.
