antique dining chair started "leaking"

I bought a set of antique upholstered dining chairs (horse hair stuffing) and stored them for a few years. One began to leak an oily substance, which has stopped, but I am reluctant to slip cover them if this is going to happen again. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Ew! Not everything antique is worth keeping. Sounds like you might have some kind of infestation. Replace the horsehair with new material.

I have mice and they don't leak. I googled this and the only leaking chairs I found were associated with "gas lifts"... could these chairs have started life as office chairs, and later got converted to dining chairs?
