Depends on size and complexity of the project.

Cost will be about $400K for the entire project, new kitchen and family room with a basement under it and a 2nd story with a new master bath - adding onto a 2 story 1937 Colonial

diliberti, engineering fees are very dependent on where you are located and as Dytecture said, there are a number of factors which can have a big impact on price. The only way you will know for sure is to get in touch with some engineers in your area and have them prepare a price estimate for you, which they should do for free.

We are in Denver. Our architect recommended the engineer and he is $8K. We have heard that architecture and engineering fees can run 5-15% of total project - we are within that range given both architect and engineer. Everything seems more expensive here! :) Thank you for your help!

Around Aspen, the general rule of thumb is that structural engineering will run between $2.00-$2.50 per foot, but there are other factors that they consider when pricing a project. The lowest we have seen is around $1.50 per foot. Although we have worked with engineering firms in the Denver/Boulder area that we would work with again, we don't have any recommendations for a good one who might be cheaper.
