Help! Need more seating

Hello! Need more seating in our livingroom .. Stuck between putting two smaller lounge chairs (where the dining chairs are placed) or two ottomans which can be stored under the consoles behind the couch. Any advice on how to make our livingroom the neutral, zen space it's meant to be!?

Hi connie00, why not go for a combination, have two ottomans that sit in between the tv unit and the coffee table these are bought out when lots of guests and extra seating needed, tucked away under the console when not needed. Then have two low open style lounge chairs as a fixture. You have doubled your seating but not cluttered your space. best wishes jaimie k

Hi i have attached a couple of images. Keep the backs low and simple in styling. The Barcelona is a classsic comes in cream leather and would work well with your sofa. you can get ottomans either made to order so they could be a little wider and a little more comfortable and a bit more stylised. As they are going under the console use the space

I would go with beige Barcelona chairs and stools.

Jaimie K Designs, looks like we were thinking on the same track at the same moment; my apologies if I had interrupted...

Nothing beats the barcelona chair! Would white be a little much? Or what would you guys suggest?

    Hi there,
Here are my more frugal options and opinions..

First off I would move the couch away from the wall..about 1ft and would put a chrome reading floor lamp.

Your end table isn't the right hight, surface is too low to be comfortable when you want to put your drink down. So, I would get myself a Lack side table in high gloss white (IKEA for $15)...only use the surface..carefully use silicone to glue on your side table in the middle of this surface..then flip it over and screw on 4 Chrome legs (again you can just take IKEA legs, Capita 4 for $25). This will match the white pieces you have in the room.

You can google "chrome legs" and there is a wide variety of options at a very good price.

I would wall mount your television cabinet...high enough to slip ottomans under it. OR put the same legs "Capita" x 6 on this piece and store ottomans under the table behind your sofa.

The table behind your sofa needs something...possibly 2 nice lamps, chrome lanterns, something significant.

To avoid having a bunch of electrical cords bunched up at one outlet.. just Velcro on a power bar under your sofa...plug lamps there. Do this for your TV unit too. Think about wall mounting your television..even if it's just a few inches above the unit...this is more streamline (it's all about attention to detail..in my opinion)

You could even remove the legs on your couch and put the same legs on it..it would link everything together.

Now, those Barcelona chairs are sold anywhere from $500 -$1300.. Not including taxes. Have a look at the picture of a few great options from Ikea $229-$349 (they come in a variety of colours). Now, if you are anything like my family, they all piles up on our couch to watch TV..nobody sits on the chairs except for company. These chairs are comfortable and stylish.

    Good luck

FYI my favourite chair is the second one..perfect with your large coffee table...and has nice square back like your couch....also like the hight and lines of the arms.

Also, IKEA has great simple floor lamps that would look great in your space.

Ok, that's it from me! I have a tendency to run on and on!! LOL

hmm these look great but they seem too big/bulky given the space from the coffee table to the wall is only about 2m (and you have to walk through it) .. here's an earlier pic: the wall is to the left

Connie, in response to your question earlier, white Barcelona chairs work for me!

Yes, that end table is too low, but it might work between a pair of armless slipper chairs. Here's a chart to help with table and lamp heights. I'd want some ottomans under the console.

Well, the 3rd one is a swivel chair, almost like a poof with a back. I don't think they would take up more space than the dining chairs you have there now.

Your other option would be to turn your couch once clockwise..you would still be able to have your tall sofa table up against the back of the couch...then against the window wall there would be enough place for the other chairs. You could use your small coffee table in between the chairs. I think you would be surprised at how compact these chaired are...they might all be good for the space. Look at the measurement on the Ikea site, then tape out the footprint on your carpet with masking tape (even better, use cardboard or x-mas paper cut to size and move it around to give you a better idea.

Plus, the best thing is they come in an assortment of colours that would match your present decor.

    Good luck

Looks to me like you could put an ottoman at the end of the couch under the window, too, for a clutter-free extra seat (or foot stool)...

Like so? There is about 3.5 feet of unused open space behind that love seat. Is that acceptable?

Did we just switch dilemmas? Who is jschelmm and how did they get into this conversation?

Can you find some small ottomans/poufs to fit under your coffee table, below the corners? They could slide under when not in use; pull out when you need them.

I love the Barcelona chairs. What an iconic look!

Get two armless (in a bold color)chairs place side by side. Get 2 low not to big ottomans go a print like zebra, or leopard. For a fun look. Add some animal print pillows to sofa to tie together. TJMax carries.

Put some tall items on sofa table. Looks bare. Add more color.

Add a long 5 ft long and narrow picture over fireplace. Not too high. Z Galleries carries fun things.

I agree with bringing the sectional into room more. Adding a arc light in brush nickel IKEA may sell. Place by slider wall. Going some type of texture in ottomans like cow hide animal print. You need to mix it up go for some color like a bold yellow, orange. N airs. Some print panels on slider window in a chevron black and white would help too.
