How do you safely put a bbq/grill on a screened porch?

Does it need to be vented to the outside?

HI -- We have one - it's not vented because the porch is still open because it's only screened. It makes a bit of a mess though - smoke stains.

    Hi Ashbarton

The safest way (and a code-requirement in many areas) is that a bbq/grill (and even firepit) have a properly-sized hood vented to the outside if its in a covered area, as they have in the photo and as if it were inside your kitchen

Even if it isn't a code-requirement in your area, (some bldg depts have a minimum height to combustible material above the flame) its wise to add it for the reason Lefty47 mentioned.

There is a vent built in above the grill to allow for fumes to escape outside safely.
