I live in Irvine, CA. I need to remodel all of the bathrooms, but I have no idea how to begin.
1. How do I find good designers/contractors?
2. While design quality is subjective, actual construction quality is more objective. How do I as a homeowner go about finding out if the quality of the proposed construction work is industry standard? Any contractor I talk to always points out the previous contractor's quality of work as sub-par.
3. Roughly speaking, how do I estimate if the quote is too high or too low? I'm aware everyone is in business to make money, and designers/contractors also have families to support. However, is there some guidelines to determine whether something is either too cheap to be real or too expensive? Outside of payments for the materials themselves, are there prices per square foot or per hour?

My previous experiences with contractors (landscape contractors) were nightmares so I'm loath to deal with new contractors. However, I'm glad I found this site. I hope some local contractors on the site who have honest online reputation will contact me.
