Shower floor

I absolutely love this shower, and the shower floor is beautiful. What tiles are used here? Our builder is really pushing a shower pan as he said it's almost guaranteed that a tiled shower floor will eventually leak. I hate the look of a pan and would prefer this. Should I trust him on this one or just go for the look I want and hope for the best that it never leaks?

Thank you for your comments. The shower floor is tiled with the porcelain tile (same as the walls) for the border and a mosaic glass tile in the center.
I personally do not like shower pan either unless you use a granite one if you can find a color that will work with the color palette of your bathroom. A tiled shower will NOT leak if it is properly built. If your builder does not feel confident doing it, do not push him as you can face problems down the road. But if this is the look you want, I would highly suggest you find a professional that knows how to do it. Don't settle for less!

Thank you so much, Gwen! I think that might be a great compromise. I actually was wondering if anyone makes a shower pan that has a decorative look. It would be so cool if I could find one that could be made to look like a tiled floor, even a mosaic tiled floor. But this one would definitely be better than a plain white one that looks like a cheap insert to an otherwise beautiful tiled shower. Please let me know if you come across anything else!! :)

I'm having the same problem as we speak with my contractor he says it will leak the glass mosaic in the centre and wanted me to change tiles...I am not. Should we really have a tile fitter do it as our contractor doesn't sound too confident...talking about 10 sq ft here

@Ims26 - of course glass mosaic can be used on floor shower. Hire someone who knows.

What dimension is the glass mosaic tile in the centre 5/8" or 3/8" does it matter for shower floor....we have 5/8"...going in our new stand alone shower floor??

Can you advise how the non-slip surface in the shower was done?

Nothing special was done except choosing a small glass mosaic tile that provide many grout lines to reduce the slipperiness. Thank you!

I strongly dislike when contractors try to talk customers into a fiberglass pan, take the compromise if needed. I get calls from I'm properly installed fiber glass pans all the time on new homes. If the custom pan is built right, you should not have issues. they do have so many options now a days

Can you have a curbless shower like this one with this pan? The name says single curb but I see curbs on 4 sides. Much of the beauty of the shower is that it has not curb. It is the first such I have seen with a center drain, not a linear drain, which I would prefer. The Tileredi pan does has an integrated linear trench drain.
