Help for my front door

My front door is fiberglass with 2 sidelights - I have stained it with a gel stain but the pieces between the door and sidelights look like plastic. I have stained them as well but the stain does not stay on - it peels off every year. What can I do to avoid this from happening?

We actually used wood stain on our plastic siding. What is gel stain? Any way, within a year our wood stain on plastic siding was fading. I blame the Sun. So i applied this wood stain to a small sample of wood and took it to Home Depot in where they very mixed a custom made paint to mimic the wood stain.
