Paint it white or light color and just for cookbook storage. If it's too tall, place a small shelf near the top for platters, bread boards or cookie sheets and use the rest for cookbooks or wine!

These are great ideas so far...thanks! Coffee, wine, appliance storage...these all apply;) I'm liking the subway tile and under cabinet lighting idea- lots! I think I'll do that regardless of what we turn it into.

Yes, vertical slots for storage. Either hidden behind doors for cookie sheets etc. or leave it open and put some decorative platters in there.

Hello, Okay...I'm just gonna throw this out there without seeing your whole space..... I see you have an island, if there's seating, and you already have electric that area....you could put a tv. But have a slide out shelf so you can pull it out a bit for better viewing. Whatever you decide, good luck, you have a great kitchen. :)
