The South and west side of the home are perfect for burning bush and other shrubs that display beautiful fall foliage.

Yes like Martha said your house really could use some striking colors like red or yellow in plant material. We could suggest plants but it is best to look at your nursery center to see what they have available..otherwise you won't be able to get what we suggest. Below are a few images of plants that could work for your area. BTW ornamental grasses are in now and I like them for their..blow in the wind.. character.

Also plant nurserys often have designers or look on houzz under (find a pro) landscape designers and getting a plan is relatively cheap and you can still install yourself.

Nice house, just needs a good landscape to enhance it. I would line the driveway with red bricks/pavers, and create a flower bed with the same on the left. On the right I would plant a nice red maple ( October glory, Autumn blaze, etc. ) in a good size. On each side I would add two attractive evergreens ( rhododendrons, holly, etc. depending on your zone ) and repeat with another tree ( different variety but with some bloom or leaf interest ) on the other side of the house. Add flower boxes for seasonal color at the two windows. Next to the foundation plant low growing rhododendrons or azaleas and fill the flower bed with ornamental grasses ( medium height ) and in front of them plant annuals for seasonal color. I would suggest that you build a nice big front walk/courtyard to draw people right into that front door that is a little hidden.

Being south facing, be sure to get plants that don't require lots of water. Utilizing your local Nursery is a very good suggestion.

For a gravel driveway like yours, I would suggest edging it with something solid to keep the grass and stone where they belong. Here in Mass. we have a ready supply of Granite Cobblestones that do a great job.
