Column Ideas for in house

I am refurbishing my home and I had to get a column installed to reinforce the roof for an addition that was done.

I am looking for ideas to make it look more attractive as it is in my living room.

I am thinking of putting mirror glass on it. Is that a good idea. then I want to put a few glass shelves to put framed pictures on .

What do you think?

    if you are going for a more modern look and the column is cement, you could always do a finished/gloss cement. Affordable and chic.
