I dislike plantation shutters so just to be a jerk I would say yes. In Canada I have been ripping plantation shutters out of houses for the last 8 yrs They block so much natural light they are a pain to clean and they look so heavy in many spaces.

Not weird at all! It's a very common practice actually! Just be sure that's what you want because plantation shutters aren't easily removed. They are built right into your home and are very substantial. Best of luck deciding!
