    Hot-rolled steel

It is very elegant. What is it treated with to prevent rust and hold up to the heat?

Love the steel. Why hot rolled and not cold? How was the steel mounted? I am building a home with steel studs/drywall over fireplace, and have access to cold rolled steel sheeting, but am curious to know the guage (sp?!) and just how this was mounted. Are the bolts for real? Did you use fireplace cement as an adhesive too? Thanks very much. Love the creativity.

Hot-rolled steel has a very different look than cold-rolled. The color and character is very different. If you would like to email me directly, I can provide a close-up photo of the hearth, which is also steel.

The steel makes for a great effect - thanks for sharing the photos. I am considering this as cladding over a 1980s brick installation on a custom designed home (that way the brick can be restored later if desired. Did you clad to some sub-structure?
