alyssum produces lots of seed when it matures. you probably will not have to buy it again. All I know is that it comes in purple or white. Buy one packet from anyone and you will be able to collect it in the future. Isn't it fun to plan for spring!

Oh my...there is much more to alyssum than 'purple or white'! There are pink cultivars, deep rose, dark dark purple, peach and apricot, and more! I don't know how many white hybrids! I'm going to be growing 'Snow Princess' this year to see if it is a heat tolerant as they say.

I bought seed packets of the white "Snow crystals" I think was the name from Walmart last year for 20 cents a pack! I needed to plant a lot of annuals in my mothers yard, as she was selling it and wanted some curb appeal cheap. I spent 40 cents on 2 packs and got a ton of plants. Along with my 2 packages of lemon drop marigolds seeds we dressed up the flower beds for under $1 total. The alyssum (and marigolds too) did very well, spread and bloomed like crazy. An extra bonus was the sweet smell of the alyssum. I did find I need to pinch, pinch, pinch them to get them nice and bushy. I think the white types are a bit more vigorous than the colors, but the colored types do very well also. I use a lot of both the white and the purple/lavender shades in my garden. Easy, fragrant, spreads well and blooms all summer. They do reseed well also.
