The seed racks are not a good place to shop for seeds, in my opinion. The catalogs and online stores are more likely to have the "new" stuff.

Burpee has a seedless tomato on the cover of their catalog. I ordered a packet, because I have never eaten a seedless tomato, and would like to grow a few. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if they run out of those seeds before the end of the planting season.

In zinnias, the Zahara zinnias are new for most people, as are the Knee High Profusions, and Johnny's lists the new Queen Red Lime zinnia. Territorial lists several new items, including Art Deco Mix zinnia. I'm a zinnia hobbyist, so I notice the new zinnias. Most of the major seed catalogs have some new things.

Burpee has a new lavender pink gomphrena that looks nothing like a typical gomphrena. I will probably try it since gomphrenas are some of our very best hot weather annuals.

I also went to HD just to check. Same here, nothing new, but also the seed racks are smaller compared to last year. I don't know if more are coming or that's it.

I never have much luck picking from the seed racks either. Park Seed has a couple new seeds I'm going to give a try. They are: Begonia 'BIG Red', they say it grows to 2ft wide by 2ft tall. We will see!

That Blackcurrant Swirl Angel's Trumpet looks gorgeous but don't know if rabbits/deer would eat it before I could get it to bloom. Groundhogs eat anything and don't think any of these animals would get enough nasty taste/chemicals to do anything but blink a few times. Sure is beautiful, though.

Haven't been in stores yet where seeds are carried but will go for a couple of everyday things like Pinwheel Zinnia and herbs. Still have packs of seed from last year's seed rack impulse buys and then didn't have chance to sow.

A couple new Zinnia are beautiful...so colorful and happy.
'Candy Mix' sure is pretty.

I want Spring to hurry up so we can get this show on the road outside.

I'm ordering a number of Sweet Alyssum from Swallowtail Seeds just because I want more color choices for plantings. Newer (to me) Aphrodite, Golf & Wonderland series and Snow Crystals. Can't believe I'm going to waste money on shipping Sweet Alyssum but I am. This year I'll try to be strong and not attempy to separate every tiny seedling that sprouts in trays in a tortuous effort not to waste a single living plant...LOL.

Lowes had only two racks of flower and vegetable seeds combined. Nothing special and lots of sunflowers. Also this new idea of packs of three or four types of zinnia in one or "all white flowers", "all blue flowers" ect. is popular again this year. At K-Mart, I always look forward to browsing Martha Stewart's seed selection, mostly just to look a the fancy packaging but some years she has unique varieties. Well, again, nothing special and smaller selection.

mmqchdygg : check out the link below, another member posted it on another forum. It's interesting, gives me ideas of what to look out for when I'm in the garden centers (it'll take a few years for those things to reach us up in Canada tho')!
