Thanks for all the great comments. Just to answer the question about tubing size, the main trellis is 1/2" , and the design at the top is 3/8". I hope that helps.

Your trellis is beautiful. I just made my first one and now I am hooked. Can I ask what the size of your trellis is? Have you made more?

I'd like to hear more details, too. I want to make a basic structure to support old garden roses--something maintenance free!--but I have no practical skills. Any chance you could post directions and advice for newbies?

Working with copper is really easy. All you need are a few basic tools (propane torch, cheap pipe cutter, and wire brush) and a little imagination. After some practice at soldering, you will be ready to go. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

broke and bent, both arches and trellis's. They will
be sturdier than what I did have anyway.

I'm new here and just saw your absolutely beautiful copper trellis made for your Mom, Hope she loves it as much as I do!! what a super gift.
Can you post a few details - such as size- width/height and some directions , on lay out ect before assembly. Did you make the curvy parts from tubing or the regular copper pipe?

Very nice trellis, I bet your Mom really enjoyed it. My hubby and I made a couple of trellises, it was a fun project. I have mine planted with clematis. You did good!

About the soldering- did you use the silver colored stuff or did you find coppper colored stuff? You must be very neat. You're right about practice.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments. I will try to post an updated picture soon. My mother is growing morning glories on it this season.
I have made a couple of smaller, less complicated trellises since this one, but nothing so grand in scale.

I just used the standard silver solder. The trick is just to practice in order to keep the joints looking neat.

We tried when it was very hot and humid. Also it had rained on and off for some days before I deceided to work on finishing my trellis. It will be more "artsy" looking. Please do post new pix. Think I'll try again when its cooler and less humid.
