Most of the people in my area just place them on the rails of their fences. I saw 2 with an address sign between them. I have mine leaning against the spindles of our porch, which are rustic cedar. Wish I had more!

I've seen them made into a bench. Wheels facing each other with boards for the seat and the back. Looks like they could roll away at any moment. I like that.

I got several from a neighbors dump pile. We too have 2-3 acre lots most of which is taken up by woods. I will show you how I planted mine if ya give me your e-emil. I know how to send pictures e-mail but have not learned how to post the pictures yet. I planted them up to their hubs. They define my shade garden from the woods behind. They go well with the buck board I found sitting in the woods outside my kitchen window.

This might sound crazy...and I don't know how big these wheels are, but they are incredible when hung from a branch of suitable size and have candles placed on all horizontal surfaces. I have some barrel rims that I place in the yard during parties with candles and they are wonderful. You can even hot glue cheap small votive holders or glasses along the horizontal surfaces for tea candles. This would be equally effective if the wheel was placed on the ground. Just a thought.

I've been wanting some of those wheels too. I think they are lovely just leaned against a big old tree, or against a fence. Just casual, as though the farmer just discarded them there. Otherwise, they are good in a flower bed held upright by a piece of rebar driven into the ground, then used as a trellis for flowering vines. Not much could be more charming than old wagon wheels, in my mind, as I grew up on a farm and it invokes such good memories. Molly

I saw a pair in Florida that were filled with concrete and making an entry to their drive. I did a double take several times, they were so unusual. The spokes were exposed and the concrete between them.

I heard a comedian do a bit on the old wagon wheels once. Something along the lines of, "Well, this here's where the wagon broke down 100 years ago, and my family's lived in this place ever since." ;-)

I've seen these either outfitted with candles or electrified (and the electrified ones are outrageously expensive!), and they look really cool!

I got two huge cast iron ones a couple years ago when they bulldozed an old home in our area. They were part of a two-wheeled cart of sorts. We had no room for the cart, so DH just took the wheels off. I have yet to figure out what I'm going to use them for. In the meantime, they lean up against the side of my house and there is periwinkle vinca growing all around them.
I'd like to put them in the garden somewhere -- ah, someday!

At this particular site, there was also a huge 4-wheeled wagon just waiting for someone to take it. No one ever did and we had no room for it, so it got bulldozed into the dump. How sad.

I had a couple of mine made into a bench as a Christmas gift to me. I saw something similar in a Southern Living magazine and we worked off of that. We used some old barn wood for the seat and it now looks just like the buggy seat that Michael Landon "Paw" sits in on Little House on the Prairie!! Come spring I will have to "plant" the base of the wheels a tad into the ground so that I don't go for a ride when I go to sit for a spell!!

I'm interested in ideas for iron wheel fence, bench or other ideas.

8 years later, the wood from inside my wagon wheels has all rotted. I took the outside iron hoops and made a garden orb like you see in all the boutiques. It stands four feet by four feet. I love it!!
