The camera is a Sony DSC p10. Expensive, but it sure is fun :-)

The plant in the foreground is a lilac ... odd-looking new leaves, eh? I've no idea what cultivar it is ... never thought about those things when I bought it 5 years ago.

I do love that fountain, but don't rely on its solar capability ... a wisp of a cloud rolls by and it turns itself off. I worried about standing water and mosquitoes when it's not running, so I use the AC adaptor that came with it and run it all the time on electricity.

Meg One question for you...There is a Kalanchoe on couple of your pics. How is it doing outside? Do you give it some direct sun or is in total shade? I'd like to put mine (3 pots) outside but am affraid of bugs and am not sure about the sun expsure. What do you do?

The forsythia is about 10 years old, I think, PV,
and it's the love of my life :-D There is nothing like sitting at my desk, glancing out the window and seeing the first sign of yellow that tells me spring is coming!

Henry, that kalanchoe is a bit of an experiment, never had one outdoors before. It was a gift handed to me when I was first planting out, and I decided to keep it outside for color til things started to bloom. It did ok in the sun for about a week or so, before the sun got as hot as it is now, then the leaves started to get sunburned. Then I put it in full shade, and it started losing some petals.
Where it is now, it's mostly in shade, with some good reflective light. Still experimenting, but that spot seems to be ok for it.

When we woke up yesterday, hubby said: Hey, wanna go buy some more plants? What a question :-D So everything is changing again.

Henry - I have a kalanchoe (the kind they sell at Christmas in the foil-wrapped pots that bloom either pink or white) and having it inside, I couldn't get it to rebloom. So the year before last, I put it out until frost and then brought it in under some light. And voila! It bloomed. So I'm thinking what I had was a short-day bloomer. I've had it for at least 9 years. I kept it in partial morning sun. I have some leggy pieces on it so I need to prune it and just start new ones from the cuttings.

On the Kalanchoe. Bring it slowly into the sun allowing a week or so in between each move.
It will develop better leaf color (the edges in particular)and fill out much better.
They tend to get leggy in lower light levels.

My Kalanchoes started blooming in October, a month after I made 3 plants out of 1 and still getting new buds! The first flowers lasted untill yesterday when I decided to remove them so, the new once can open soon. Can't believe the flowers lasted so long.
OK, I'm going to put them out on some shade...
