I've been growing many different amaranths for a few years now. I wonder if they hybridize themselves. Last season I had one that I don't think I sowed, and that was quite different than any I remember.

I love "love lies bleeding" it is such an awesome "wild" plant. Everyone who comes into my yard is always amazed by it. Even with a small yard I have to have some every year

I have this plant in a container, started from seed last year. It is unique looking, sometimes I wonder how the heavy flowers hold uo on the stem.I added a small trellis in back of it, just in case.

You can sow them anytime between fall and now. They are wonderful self-sowers....seedlings start popping up mid April thru May.

These grew to 5' that year with 2-3 foot long ropes by the years end. I ended up having to give it some support with a stake to keep it proped up! The following years plants stayed within the 3-4' range....pretty never-the-less :D

Do they do well in a container? I was thinking of growing some in a container against a fence to kind of control them - they can take over and that way they would be a spectacular background plant

This is my second year growing them, I haven`t tried to save the seeds yet, this year I will.

It's so easy to save seed from too! Just take a big mixing bowl and hold it under tassles while you run your hand top to bottom. They will fall out by the gazillions. Then you can blow the chaff away while the seed just swirl around the bowl. Use the seed in breads, cereal and even pop like popcorn :D

Could someone post a seedling pic of this? Please..... I think I've got them coming up! Yeah - I don't want to "weed" it. I direct sowed a couple weeks ago. They've got red stems and pointy leaves.

I've never had these reseed for me here in Nebraska, but one of my favorite nurseries has seedlings for sale every spring -- they're usually about 8 inches tall and already with some blooms. I cut them back hard before I plant them, and they do great ... usually 3-4 feet tall by summer's end. There's nothing else that looks quite like them. I'm going to keep a closer eye out the next couple of weeks for volunteers, though. I've got to believe there will be some; i've probably accidentally hoed them up in the past. Dan
