Happy Spring! I winter-sowed (really early-spring-sowed) several zinnia varieties that have sprouted and are happily living in their small containers. Now that I have them, I'm not quite sure where to plant them. My garden "beds" are too shaded, I think. I had planned to put them in an area near the street next to a pampass grass that is in full sun. But it's not really a tended bed. The soil is not ammended -- or ammendable. It has some daffodils and some daylilies and weeds that eventually take over to the point that I mow the whole thing down (except the pampass, of course). I know that zinnia can thrive on a certain amount of neglect, but can they compete with weeds? Or should I stick to containers. (That would be a lot of containers, by the way!)
