I saw the same posting and was seized with the very same fever:) Since they are only available for order in the fall bulb catalogs, I assume that it is best to wait and plant them in the fall. However, if you have them now, there is no need to lose them. Just put them in pots! I am not experienced growing allium karataviense, so I cannot advise you about such things as protecting them from cold through the winter, but I guarantee someone on this forum can and will. Stay tuned.

Thanks so much for both of your answers. I did not even think about the buying time of these bulbs. I just got so excited when I saw a picture of these and found some on the internet. I figure I have less than 10 dollars invested in 15 bulbs, so even if none of them make it, I have learned alot about a plant I was not familiar with and have quickly fallin in love with. Can a person winter sow these bulbs?

If they're seeds you can wintersow, if they're the actual bulbs they should be potted and kept somewhere cool yet above freezing in order to give them time to grow roots. Freezing won't do them any good and will likely kill them.

I planted my Allium bulbs in Atlanta in November when it was still cool. I've been eagerly awaiting their entrance but it is almost June and I don't see them. Did I kill them?

Could you plant Allium bulbs in pot end of April. Keep inside till they are 4-5 inches. Then plant outside or let grow always inside. Will this work? Jacque (jackie) MI.

Why do you want to grow them inside? You can just plant them outside and let it do its thing. If the bulb is still firm and healthy, you will probably get something. Maybe not this year but eventually. What zone are you?
