I've had them for two summers now... don't have any inclination to grow anything from seed so purchase individual Osteospermum plants in bud or bloom. They bloom all summer for me, until the first hard frost knocks them down. I deadhead and I am pretty well convinced this keeps the bloom going. Other than that I leave them alone and let them do their thing.

Yes, if you deadhead them they will bloom more for you. I snip all the way back to the stem for a cleaner look. And if you do not snip them, they will still bloom like crazy. They love the heat but like to be regularly watered and fed.

They are great! No bugs, no fuss and they are very tolerant of 'rough' weather.

I forgot to add that mine bloom starting mid to late May and go till frost. They look great with my white pumpkins in the early fall.

I buy and they stop blooming when it gets to really be summer. The plants then seem fine and sometimes re-bloom in the fall. Do they behave differently when grown from seed?

No, they perform the same for me from seed and from mature plant.

When it gets really hot they seemed to stop blooming in my pots so now I only keep them in large pots (24"+) or in the ground.

This has worked the last 4 years for me to keep them blooming all of the time.

I don't think they like their roots warm.
