trunk chop help

It was two weeks ago that I decided to perform a trunk chop on my ficus microcarpa. I decided to plant the top part of the tree, and it appears to have lived! But the bottom half, now a stump, is not getting any buds on it yet. Do you think it's dead or does it just take a very long time? Thanks for any input!
