is the spigot above the hose??? ... get some plastic connectors.. get the hose reel over by that blue pot under the deck .. and using some plastic pvc pipe .. create a spigot extension down the wall... across under the step.. and put another spigot on one of the deck post ...

what are you thinking??? .. when your guests trip over the hoses.. they will land face down in your fragrant flowers.. lol...

4 o'clocks are about 2 feet tall .. and fragrant ... phloxs ??? ... so many options.. so little space ... i would jam as many plants as i could afford in that spot .... it would appear that water is not an issue.. lol ...

parts list:

female hose connect with rubber washer
90 degree elbow

unknown length of 1 inch plastic pipe [or whatever size the hardware guy suggests ..... one inch might be best ... one would expect a smaller pipe to have greater pressure.. but it has the highest resistance ... so one inch actually provides better pressure, or so my irrigation guy told me]
two cans of pvc glue
at least two other 90 elbows [however many to get where you are going]

spigot [or even a ball valve]
and connector from pipe to spigot ....
and some strap to attach the spigot to the post

It's unclear from the picture if the walkway continues past the bottom of the steps. If not, how about putting some hanging brackets on the handrail and hanging petunias there?

You could also put a small obelisk somewhere in the bed (depending on where/when it would cast a shadow) & put moonflower vines on it if you spend time out there after dark or in the early mornings. Or a shepherd hook with moonflower vine and hanging basket of petunias?

Yeah, sweet alyssum I will look at. I went to the local nursery and they do carry it but it will be a couple weeks yet before they are in.

I will also check out the heliotrope purple. The look I want is mounds of color and fragrance but I don't have any preference for colors.

I can see a beautiful annual bed planted with snapdragons, heliotrope interspersed ,spaced closely,down the center, and allysum planted around the edges so it can "flow" over .
