Yes garden centers all over do this with some varieties of allyssum and some other small plants like Lobelia. Look at a package of dollar store 3 for $1 Allyssum and you will see just how many seeds you get. It is not worth the nurseries time to separate or thin them and the customer gets a big bang for the buck.

I grow my own more expensive seed and I always put 3 plants in a cell. You get a much nicer, bigger looking plant and if one happens to die there will still be a nice plant

I end up with so many plants I try and foist on friends and relatives, its almost like offering them zucchini squash. The joy of propagating is you are put in a position similar to that fellow with the loaves and fishes. A great joy. Al
