W. Willow are easy to propagate but not so easy to turn into convincing bonsai.

I should know, I've been trying to do it for about 5 years.

Look at the weeping willow re-style thread over on the Gallery forum to view one of the better examples I've seen by DonZ who posts here regularly.

Zack; I started several from cuttings,a few years ago.I generally went for a "slant" style & would let them grow wild for a few months,prior to selecting the ones I wanted to keep for styling.I don`t have any pics of them,but I do have one showing how I prune the apex each winter once they go dormant.Can post,if you desire?? ---Z

I would love to see pix. Also, do they like sun shade, etc.? I have some in a pot of barn dirt that is sitting in a bird bath full of water. Should I keep them there? Should I let them grow for a year or two or can I start triming them sooner? This started out as a what if idea and they are reallly coming along quickly. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Zack

Zack; I put mine under shade cloth,once temps reach highs close to 90 F. This usually happens by mid May.I started using my regular soil mix & doubled up on the screened pine/fir bark mulch,which comes to 25% red lava,25% pumice & 50% bark.I would start cutting & training as soon as you see ample growth,as they recover rather quick.I`ll post a pic in the gallery on how I prune back the "canopy" each year---Z
