Paul, if it's the stuff I'm thinking of, it means the plant is getting way too much water. (Is it shiny green stuff that lays out flat on the soil?) Scrape it off and allow the plant to dry out more. At least that's what I've done in the past with good results.zube

It does have shiny green stuff, almost like succulent leaves but it also has .5 to.75 inch little palm trees that seem to be growing out of it. It has all been scraped off and at your recommendation I'll let it dry out more before watering.
Any one else have suggestions.

Paul, that's the stuff. The little palm trees bloom out after it's pretty well established. They're pretty neat looking, but the more it spreads, the more water it holds in until your pot is like a swamp.
