spider mites

I spent two months battling spider mites on one of my trees by strictly mechanical means. Not because I'm into organic, but because bad allergies in the family make me hesitate getting the malthion out.

Anyway, I recently read that greenhouses commonly use bottled CO2 to kill off insect life by raising the concentration to toxic (for insects) levels for several hours.

My first thought was to get the homebrew equipment out and pump a garbage bag full of it, but then I chickened out thinking it might kill the plants at too high a concentration.

Does anyone know if this would work on spider mites? Also, how much CO2 would also be toxic to my trees?
